Urgent care questions
How to decide what needs attention now, what happens during the visit, and what follow-up looks like.
How do I know if this is urgent care or an emergency?
Urgent care is for concerns that can’t wait โ but aren’t immediately life-threatening. If your pet is collapsed, having a seizure, bleeding uncontrollably, or can’t breathe, go directly to an emergency hospital. Everything else โ limping, vomiting, skin issues, ear pain, low energy โ is what we’re here for. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll help you decide.
Do you cover my area?
We serve Ventura, Ojai, and Santa Barbara. If you’re in or near these areas, we can usually reach you. Call or start a request online and we’ll confirm your location during scheduling.
How quickly can you come?
We confirm a same-day arrival window when you start the request. In most cases we can reach you within a few hours. For after-hours visits (evenings and weekends), the window may be slightly longer โ we’ll be clear about timing when you call.
What should I have ready before the vet arrives?
Your pet’s vaccination records or any recent vet notes are helpful but not required. Keep your pet in a quiet, accessible room if possible. If they’ve ingested something, note the substance and approximate time โ that information speeds up assessment considerably.
What if my pet needs to go to a hospital?
If your pet needs imaging, surgery, or intensive care that we can’t provide at home, we’ll coordinate the referral and arrange transport via our veterinary ambulance service. You won’t be left figuring out next steps alone.
What happens if my pet gets worse after the visit?
If something changes after the visit, contact Aluna and our team will guide the next step, including whether to monitor, schedule follow-up care, or go to an emergency clinic.
Can you treat foxtail injuries at home?
Yes, in many cases. Foxtails in the paw, ear, or surface skin can often be assessed and removed on-site. If the foxtail has migrated deeper โ into the chest, abdomen, or spine โ we’ll refer you for imaging and specialist care.
What's included in the visit fee?
The $185 service price covers the at-home urgent care visit and veterinary assessment. Lab work, treatments, and medications are billed separately when recommended, and Aluna will explain the next step before anything is added.
